The second Phoenix Amputee Golf Tournament attracted 52 players from WA, CA, NV, AZ and Canada. There were quite a few first timers to the tournament. The golf course was in good shape and the weather in the mid to high 80's…perfect weather in Phoenix.
First timer Scott Fickenscher shot 65, 7 under on Friday and backed it up with a 70 on Saturday. Scott is a BK with a 2 handicap and resides in Scottsdale , AZ. He played with Bill Harding. Bill said “he just blew by me”. Everybody knows Bill is a great golfer and has won the Nationals a few times.
The winners are:
All first place winners won a Ping putter. We had 6 to 8 people come to watch what amputee is all about. We invited them to stay for lunch and meet the players both days. Some comments were ‘I did not realize how competitive the amps are'. The staff in the Cave Creek Pro Shop was totally amazed at the great attitude everyone has. Volunteers from the Cave Creek Men's Club helped check in and get clubs and to assist with range balls on Friday and Saturday. My granddaughter brought girls from her high school crew & golf team to help out. I believe it was a great educational time for both groups and every one had fun with it.
